Lesson #4 PRACTICE. Digital technologies and interaction

We created a Virtual Learning Community on Edmodo taking into account the following information which will help us find the one that suits us best according to our needs as users or administrators.

Our choice of using one or another social network for educational purposes we can take into account:

Administrator experience using this social network
Specific features that the social network offers:
Design
Type of content and possibilities
Number of users type of interactions it offers
Tools
Search/ classification
Management

We researched online and our group members María Naranjo, Irene Pardo, Judit Pastallé and myself we decided to use Edmodo based on our topic Jobs and Professions.

We were able to create a teacher's group to share articles, information and resources. We created an event and gave each other feedback on the resources we shared.

Why did we choose this network?

We chose it because several people in our group were familiar with it so it allowed us to start using it with confidence as we were aware of the different uses that can be made of it.  It is also free of cost.
At first sight the platform is aesthetically pleasing, and it is also quite similar to other social media platforms that we are acquainted with.
One of the benefits is also that you can upload all kinds of files, making it easy for students to access information anywhere, anytime. One of the main factors that made us choose it was that teachers have control as well as the chance to create teams for each of their classes and supervise their different activities. More so, teachers can communicate with parents and inform them of important things that are happening. Interactions can also be done between colleagues to exchange ideas and experiences.

One of the possible drawbacks could be that it doesn’t have a chat window to be able to interact with students live

This pros and cons chart found here (slide 13).

What is Edmodo?

What is my opinion about using social networks for educational purposes?
