In this post we will talk about JClic.
JClic is a free software application for the creation, realization, and evaluation of multimedia educational activities, developed in the Java programming language.
JClic is divided in three applications: JClic Author for teachers to design the activities, Regular JClic for students to do the designed activities and JClic Report for grading the activities. I will show examples of different exercises that can be done on it. I have found it more user friendly than Hot Potatoes as it allows you to create different activities using the
same tool. On Hot potatoes the activities would be separated in different files and formats and could only be bonded together at the end creating a big amount of file administration that made the exercise more complex. We have tried with different activities such as:
Making an information screen to introduce students to the activities that will follow:
Fig.1 Here there is an introductory image and welcome to the activity set
Afterwards we created the first interactive activity following simple instructions. The first activity is a Double Puzzle Activity. Because we are working on Jobs and Professions I chose a woman judge. All the activities in this series are highlighting the importance of gender equity. In this first example, to make it difficult, the pieces are all the same size:

Furthermore, we can change the shape of the puzzle pieces. I chose rounded jigsaw pieces like these:

We continued by making a Memory Activity named Find the Pairs. I created an image bank and uploaded the images I wanted to use. I was able to easily change colours, background, etc. Customising is easy with this software. The topic remains the same: Women at work:

The next activity is very similar to the previous one, it is about Finding Pairs. In this case it must be done by finding pairs of one same image that is fragmented, which is more difficult but less rich in terms of variety and vocabulary that can be used:

Finally we made a Simple Matching Activity using definitions on one side and images that match on the other. They are matched with a lign that appears on the screen when we click on any of the squares:

Finally, we are going to show the Explore Activity.
We use one image and we link it to its corresponding word to match image with meaning to enhance vocabulary learning. That is a picture of the process:

Here is a screenshot of an example, when we click on the person holding the orange pizza bag the word RIDER appears on the right as they have been linked:

When we have finished or while we are creating activities we can share our project with other teacher's: it is what we call sequencing
That is a great tool that is easy to create different kinds of activities. That's all for now. Will be back soon with more tasks for teachers using ICT resources.
